Powerful earthquakes have occurred in the Indian Ocean west of Aceh on 26 December 2004. Epicenter located approximately 160 kilometers west of Aceh with a depth of 10 kilometers. Strength of this quake reached 9.3 on the Richter scale, causing a tsunami.
