M6.6 Earthquake shakes Solomon Island

SOLOMON - An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter Scale shook one of the islands in the Solomon Islands. There were no casualties or damage were reported in this earthquake.

United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake occurred at noon local time on the island of Santa Cruz.

The island is located about 353 kilometers east of the Kirakira city in the Solomon Islands.

Pacific tsunami warning center to make sure there is no tsunami threat after the quake struck. Local authorities did not report any casualties or serious damage in this disaster. So reported the Associated Press, sunday (01/08/2012).

Santa Cruz Island is located in the Pacific ocean, is a remote island and does not have a lot of the population. The island is better known as a tourist location.
